This Self Guided Walking Tour is the perfect way to discover Catalonia’s fascinating history, culture and excellent cuisine. Visit medieval towns along the Mediterranean Sea with fantastic views of the small bays in the area.

This is the perfect way to discover Catalonia’s fascinating history, culture and excellent cuisine. With its gorgeous beaches, rugged coastline, charming stone villages and pine covered hills, the Costa Brava is an unforgettable walking destination. The route begins in the village of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a lovely seaside fishing village near the beautiful beach of Sant Pol. You’ll walk along the coast Northound, on the wonderful “Caminos de Ronda” along the sea. You’ll visit ancient fishing villages, such as Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, which still preserve their local culture. You climb the Begur massif, to the village of Begur, with the magnificent panoramic view and finish in Torroella de Montgri where you’ll spend 2 nights in a very special accommodation that is a refurbished mill dating back to the 15th century.

You’ll have complete support behind the scenes. Our Spain representative will meet you at the beginning of your tour for an orientation. You will receive a packet with detailed route instructions, maps, suggestions for sights to visit along the route and emergency support phone numbers. You can take a spontaneous detour and always feel secure that your hotel room will be waiting for you. You will be able to travel at your own pace without a guide or support vehicle to hurry you along or to slow you down. Your luggage will be transported each day to the next accommodation, which will be reserved and prepaid. You don’t need to worry, as emergency support is just a phone call away.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Girona or Barcelona and transfer to Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Sant Pol)

Upon arrival in Girona or Barcelona, Spain, we will arrange a transfer for you to your hotel in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.  Your first hotel is in the nice little town of Sant Feliu de Guixols with its fishing port. Accommodation in a hotel next to the beautiful beach of Sant Pol.

Day 2 – Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Sant Pol) – Palamós (La Fosca)

Our Spain representative will Today you’ll be walking along the coastline until reaching Calella de Palafrugell. The route goes through the village of Platja d’Aro, following the sea along the Bay of Palamós, with its fishing port and its delicious dishes of fish. Hotel in La Fosca.

  • Distance: 18 km, 190 meters climb

Day 3 – Palamós (La Fosca) – Calella de Palafrugell

Today’s route goes through the lovely Castell cove rounding the wooded area of Cap Roig (height 130 m), from where we can get excellent panoramic views. Lodging in the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, with a magnificent view over the settlement of Calella.

  • Distance: 10 km, 240 meters climb

Day 4 – Calella de Palafrugell – Begur

The trail leads us to the north always following the coast and going up to the Massif of Begur (height 220 m) with its picturesque town and its medieval castle.

  • Distance: 13 km, 465 meters climb

Day 5 – Begur – Peratallada

Slope down to the gentle countryside where a large number of picturesque medieval villages are visited. Pals is one of the pearls, with it’s big walls, the Hours tower, and the church of Sant Pere from the XIII century. Already on the plain you will pass by Sant Feliu de Boada, and reach Peratallada where you will be lodging in a cute guest house. You can wander on the very ancient ambiance of this nice small town.

  • Distance: 15 km, 100 meters climb

Day 6: Peratallada – Torroella de Montgrí

Today’s route pases through interesting medieval villages. The trail is flat and leads you to the river mouth of the Ter, where you will enjoy the view of the Medes Islands.

  • Distance: 12 km, 125 meters climb

Day 7 – Circular route Montgrí Massif

Circular route to discover some of the most wonderful parts of the Montgrí Massif. The route passes by two lovely coves, which can only be reached by foot and you will reach the highest spot with the Montgrí castle on the top (200m). From there you have an excellent view of all the Empordà area. Return to your hotel in Hotel in Torroella de Montgri.

  • Distance: 9 km, 450 meters climb

Long option to L’Estartit (20km 565m+): After climbing to the castle you will walk on the edge of the mountain to L’Estartit (sea village) where you can enjoy a meal on one of thrir terrasses. Coming back the itinerary is totally flat. (always possible to take a taxi to skip the last 6 km.

Day 8 – Departure

After breakfast, taxi on your own to train near by train station in La Flaça with access to Girona or Barcelona.  We can also arrange transfers to Girona or Barcelona for an additional cost.
