This exciting hiking safari This safari is for the active traveler who wants to really see and experience Africa on foot, not just from the window-seat on a bus. The 4-day trek with local guides and Samburu warriors is an amazing cultural experience as well as an opportunity to see an enchanting landscape that overlooks the Great Rift Valley. This 4-day trek is burro supported and led by our knowledgeable local guide and a staff of Samburu warriors. Hiking with only a light daypack, you will be able to enjoy the fabulous vistas as we follow in the footsteps of 19th Following the trek, you will enjoy three days at Mutamaiyu House. This exclusive wilderness lodge is on the Mugi Ranch, a 49,000 acre private wildlife reserve that rolls out across the plains of the Laikipia Plateau. Perched high above the Great Rift Valley, the Mugie Ranch is home to an abundance of fascinating wildlife. Mutamaiyu House has beautifully constructed individual bungalows that have exceptional views, gourmet food and all the comforts of home. Kenya is a traveler's paradise, and each day will be filled with extraordinary images of wildlife, delightful scenery and fascinating local people. The safari accommodations are a unique mix of comfortable lodges and basic wilderness trekking camps, and in every location, the food is excellent. Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi Hotel in Nairobi. Day
2: After breakfast, transfer to the national airport for a charter flight to the Mugie Ranch. Here you will be met by the trekking guide and transferred to the start of the trek. In a small Samburu village your will meet the team of Samburu warriors and burro drivers who will accompany you on the trek. After lunch you begin walking on a trail that leads through the forest to the first night’s camp along a stream. While walking, you only carry a daypack with the clothing, water and snacks we need for the day. The burros transport all additional personal gear, food and equipment. Before you arrive at camp, your tents will be set up with washbasins, toilets and a hot shower, and you will be greeted by warm smiles and yummy snacks before your first bush dinner around the fire. Deluxe safari camping. Day 3: After breakfast you begin hiking with your guide while the staff breaks down the camp. Your route takes you through a thick forest with an enormous variety of plant species. Your guide is an expert naturalist, and during the day there will be numerous stops to learn about and photograph the rich diversity of life. You have a different camp this evening and a marvelous dinner under the setting sun of another perfect African day. Deluxe safari camping. Day
4: Breakfast first, and then you traverse a gradual route through stands of pink-canopied cape chestnut trees to our destination, the spectacular Nabolo Rock. Your camp has a breathtaking view across miles of forested valleys rolling down to the Rift Valley. Cocktails and dinner will be around a blazing campfire. Deluxe safari camping. Day 5: The morning hike is mostly downhill, as you leave the mountains and finish the trek at the vehicles where cold beverages will be waiting. After heartfelt goodbyes to the trekking staff, you are off to the Mugie Ranch and the stunning Mutamaiyu House. This spectacular retreat is located in the vast Mugie Wildlife Reserve. Here, you find elephant, black rhino, lion, leopard, impala, dik dik, waterbuck, eland, oryx, hartebeest, reticulated giraffe and the rare Grevy's zebra. For birders, there have been over 285 species recorded at Mugie Ranch. The elegant cottages are built in the round African style with stone walls, a traditional thatched roof and an outstanding view of the surrounding plains. The gourmet cuisine and amenities will make you glad you are spending 3 nights here! Lodging at Mutamaiyu House.
Day 8: Following a morning game drive and a leisurely breakfast on the veranda, you bid farewell to your new friends at Mutamaiyu House. An afternoon charter flight brings you back to Nairobi. Hotel in Nairobi. Day 9: After breakfast, you are free to fly back home or to other African destinations.. ITINERARY CHANGES MAY BE MADE DUE TO LOCAL CONDITIONS BEYOND OUR CONTROL OR BY DISCRETION OF GROUP LEADERS. All the services described above are arranged weeks or months in advance of your trip. If airline schedule changes, unusual weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control prevent us from operating the services according to the schedule described above, we will attempt to substitute services of equivalent value. If we are unable to do so, passengers may be responsible for additional costs due to circumstances beyond our control.
